Model Car Contest! June 23 – 24, 2017
The Model Car Contest is one of the highlights of Back To The 50’s! The Contest will again be held under the Grandstand, June 23 – 24th. Hours are Friday & Saturday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Models may be entered until 2:00 pm Saturday. Awards and door prizes are at 4:00 pm on Saturday and all models must be picked up by 10:00am on Sunday.
Join us for the fun of building your own model car on Friday and Saturday, June 23rd & 24th in the Grandstand! This year we will again be providing a Revell Make ‘n Take kit for the young rodders. The kids love it and this year the kit is the Ford GT. It was a limited issue production car built during the nineties. With the 50th Anniversary of the Minnesota Street Rod Association this year we had the special MSRA 50th Annversary logo decal made for the Make ‘n Take car. They make a cool model even cooler by turning it into a collectible piece of MSRA history. When you see a MSRA board member please say thank you as this has become very popular and a bit expensive. Note: Parents/guardians must remain with child. This is not a drop-off event.
The drawing for the raffle prizes provided by Scale Auto Supplies and Model Empire will be Saturday afternoon after the awards ceremony. This year we will be giving the kids who build Make ‘n Take kits a ticket for the drawing starting one hour before the ceremony so that those who have to leave early don’t have a ticket in the box. This will move the prize give a way along much faster. A quick THANKS to all our great contest volunteers and all the coordinators who help me!
Really neat Dioramas have become a tradition at the model contest with great builders like Don Bonin, Wayne Krueger, and this year Mark Thorson will be displaying his dioramas with us. Be sure to stop by and see them.
Meet Everett Jasmer,
Friday and Saturday, June 23 – 24th Everett Jasmer of USA 1 Monster Trucks will be joining us again this year. He will be autographing and giving away some of his USA 1 Monster Truck AMT Snap-It model kits courtesy of Round 2 Corporation. He will also have more parts and information on display from the new Monster Trucks Inq. aftermarket resin parts line to modify model kits.
His “1988 First National Championship USA-1” truck, (and possibly the original 1970 USA-1 truck if things work out), will be just outside the grandstand.
Everett is one of the original founders of the Monster Truck sport. He is the owner and creator of the USA-1 Monster trucks. As well as being the 1st Monster Truck Racing National Champion in 1988, he was a 2011 Inaugural inductee into the International Monster Truck Hall of Fame.
