We have been doing this program at Back To The 50’s for many years and we are starting to see our contestants growing up and coming back with the models they built a few years back having customized it and entering it in the contest competition. Others are active in all the other classes too.
The Model Car Contest is one of the highlights of Back To The 50’s! The Contest will be held in the Education Building (Cruise ‘N Art Craft Fair location) June 21 – 22rd. Hours are Friday & Saturday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Models may be entered until 2:00 pm Saturday. Awards and door prizes are at 4:00 pm on Saturday; and, all models must be picked up by 6:00pm on Saturday.
We have great drawing* prizes again this year from: Scale Model Supplies, Model Empire and Kalmbach Publishing Company, the people who bring us Scale Auto Magazine, are again giving us two free one year subscriptions; and, also providing their cool new modeling special edition “Best of Tips & Techniques” for the first 200 contest entrants. Class trophies from Mike’s Pro Shop for all 1st Place winners, and 2nd and 3rd place ribbons for all classes.
Due to the high interest in the Survivors Table classification, we are limiting entries to 3 per person.
We have new judges this year along with a new policy for judges and volunteers. The new judges cannot enter their models in the competition. However if they have immediate family members who want to enter the competition they can. Each entry will be judged by 3 judges and when a family member of the head judge is judged an alternate judge will fill in. Also new this year, the volunteers can now enter their models in the competition.

Really neat Dioramas have become a tradition at the model contest. The RPM Gang has long been active in supporting our contest with many of the members who use to compete just entering their cars in the “display only” section now becoming wonderful volunteers. . Be sure to check it out the RPM Club Display, and Mike Scott’s Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s Diorama. It is way cool!!!
The drawing* for the raffle prizes provided by Scale Auto Supplies and Model Empire will be Saturday afternoon after the awards ceremony. A quick THANKS to all our great contest volunteers and all the coordinators who help me!
*We give each entrant for the model car contest a ticket for the drawing that takes place after the awards ceremony when they sign in to enter their models. We give the kids who build the Build & Boogie kits a ticket for the drawing an hour before the drawing if they come and ask us for one.

Photos shown are last years winners. Come in with your model to try and beat them. The competition is tough with the talent getting better all the time. Modeling continues to experience quite a revival as us old geezers have more time for them and our grandchildren take an interest. Getting the youth involved in the hobby is what keeps the beautiful rods and customs rolling and Back to the 50s glowing!!
